Manawatu has won a victory in the war on costly airfares, but the best deals will only come to those who spend at least $4000 a year on air travel.
Air New Zealand has introduced a discount card for frequent flyers following complaints of expensive last-minute regional fares. However, some have criticised Air NZ for ignoring a third of those demanding cheaper flights.
An Air New Zealand spokesperson said about 2000 Palmerston North people could be better off from the deal.
Cardholders receive a 30 per cent discount on any regional airfare including grab-a-seat by paying an annual fee of $800.
